The single most popular coin from thePerth Mintin Australia is the bullion coin that started a craze. The Australian Silver Kookaburra was the first bullion product from the mint to feature a native species in a different design each year, and set the stage for several popular products to come in the future. Today, Provident Metals offers the 2015 1 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin in perfect condition.
The kookaburra is a small bird species native to the Australian continent. Although unnoticed by most tourists, locals are familiar with the species for its distinctive call. A kookaburra call is said to sound eerily similar to that of a human laugh. It was the first native species to feature on a major bullion coin from the Perth Mint when it debuted in 1990, launching a craze that grew to include the Australian Koala and Australian Kangaroo bullion coins.
Each product available in this JM Bullion listing has been graded MS70 by the NGC. A coin in this condition has its full, original mint luster, and bears no detracting flaws of any kind on its surface.
On the obverse is the familiar right-profile portrait of Englands Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley, this portrait of Her Majesty is the fourth in her reign as Englands monarch and has featured on Australian coins since its introduction.
The reverse face of the 2015 1 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra coin features one of the small creatures atop its perch in a tree. The engravings of The Australian Kookaburra, 1 oz. 999 Silver, and 1990-2015 are included on this side.
Australias Perth Mint was founded in 1898 during the period of British colonial rule. Today, it is the oldest operating facility in the country, and exists autonomously from the Royal Australian Mint controlled by the federal government.
