For the obverse field of 2015 Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins, the Austrian Mint features a design visual looking in at the Great Pipe Organ inside the Golden Concert Hall. The coins design comes with inscriptions of Republik Osterreich, 1/25 Unze Gold 999,9, 2015, and 4 Euro.

In the reverse design of the 2015 Austrian Philharmonic 1/25 oz Gold Coins there is a collection of musical instruments. Totaling eight instruments in all, the design centers on a cello flanked on each side by two violins. In the background, the design includes a Vienna horn, bassoon, and a harp.

The Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins debuted in 1989 with 1 oz and 1/4 oz gold coins available. The series expanded first in 1991 with a 1/10 oz gold coin and again in 1994 with a 1/2 oz gold coin. These 1/25 oz gold coins were added in 2014 to mark the 25th anniversary of the series. The coins proved so popular that the Austrian Mint made the diminutive weight an annual release. The 2015 release has the highest reported mintage to date for the 1/25 oz gold coin. At 88,157 coins sold, the 2015 date mark surpassed the 2014 debut by 10,000 coins and is more than double each of the release dates from 2017 to 2019.
