After the Canadian Wildlife Series saw such great success, the Royal Canadian Mint created the Birds of Prey Series. In this coin series, we will see natural bird species from the nation of Canada. Right now, you can purchase the 2015 Canadian Great Horned Owl 1 oz Silver Coin in MS69 condition from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Extremely limited mintage of coins in near-perfect condition!
  • 4th and final release in the Birds of Prey Series!
  • Ships in a protective slab from NGC to preserve the condition of the coins!
  • Each coin contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver.
  • Given a face value of $5 (CAD) backed by the Canadian government.
  • Received a Mint State 69 grade from the NGC.
  • Features the image of a Great Horned Owl in flight.
  • Designed by Emily Damstra.

The Birds of Prey Series is the second commemorative bullion series to feature wild creatures that are native to the Canadian wilderness. These coins have maximum mintage figures capped at 1 million per release for a total of 4 million coins in the series.

The coins in this listing are in near-perfect Mint State 69 condition, which means that they have their full, original luster with no more than two minor detracting flaws.

Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse of each coin. This particular depiction of Her Majesty was created by Susanna Blunt in 2003, and it has been used on Canadian coinage since 2004.

Reverse

The Great Horned Owl is proudly featured on the reverse side of the coin. In the image, the bird is swooping down with its wings outstretched. You can see the birds powerful talons open, ready to grab some prey. Engravings on this side of the coin include the nation of issue, purity, metal content, and weight of the coin.

History

The Royal Canadian Mint has a history of creating beautiful coins for the nation of Canada at its locations in both Ottawa and Winnipeg. The mint was originally founded in 1908 in the capital city of Ottawa, but a second location was opened in Winnipeg in the 1980s to allow for higher production volume.
