The Mexican Mint released the 1 Kilo Silver Libertad in BU form in 2008. Production briefly stopped in 2013 and 2014 before starting up again with the 2015 issue. Today, you can order 2015 Mexican Libertad 1 Kilo Silver Coins from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2015 Mexican Libertad 1 Kilo Silver Coin ships in a clear capsule for safekeeping. The Mexican Mint first introduced a 1 Kilo Libertad Proof in 2002, followed by the BU version in 2008. The 2015 BU release carried the lowest mintage total seen in the series up to that point.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2015 Mexican Libertad Silver Coin displays the modern coat of arms in the center, with the eagle clutching a serpent while standing on a cactus. Surrounding it are 10 historic variations of the emblem used throughout Mexicos history. Inscriptions include ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse
The reverse design of 2015 Libertad 1 Kilo Silver Coins features two strong symbols of Mexican culture. In the background are the mountains Popocatpetl and Iztacchuatl, drawn from Aztec lore. At the front is the Winged Victory statue, the Angel of Independence, found in Mexico City. Inscriptions read 1 KG, PLATA PURA, 2015 LEY .999, and the mint mark.
History
Mexicos coat of arms traces back to an Aztec legend featuring an eagle and serpent on a cactus. Since its adoption in 1821, the seal has appeared in many forms that reflected the political climate of the time. Some versions leaned toward European traditions with crowns and detailed flourishes, while others highlighted indigenous influences. The design finalized in 1968 shows a golden eagle perched on a cactus over water, grasping a snake in its talons and beak.
