Reverse

The national coat of arms of Mexico is featured 11 times on the reverse of the 2015 Mexican Libertad 2 oz Silver Coin. The modern version of the seal takes up most of the design field occupying the center and is surrounded on the edges by 10 historical versions of the symbol. Each coat of arms includes a cactus with a Mexican golden eagle perched on it battling with a serpent.

History

Mexican Mint Libertad Silver Coins debuted in 1982, but only a 1 oz silver option was available for the first 10 releases. In 1991, the mint added four fractional-ounce coins. In 1992, the Mexican Libertad 2 oz Silver Coin was introduced along with a 5 oz silver coin.
