The nations first elected President of the United States, Washington served as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army throughout the American Revolution and is considered the leading Founding Father of the nation. This portrait of Washington was created in 1932 by John Flanagan for the US quarter and is still featured on the circulating coin.

Saratoga National Historical Park is located in Stillwater, New York, and was established to preserve the site of the Battle of Saratoga. The conflict that took place here marked the first significant victory of American forces in the war and lead to France directly supporting the American cause.
