On the obverse side of 2015 Proof Mexican Libertad 1 oz Silver Coins, you will find Winged Victory. Inspired by the goddess of victory, Nike, her figure hoists a crown wreath over her head and clutches the broken chains of servitude in her other hand. Winged Victory is depicted here as you would see it atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. The background field on this side of the coin includes the twin volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2015 Proof Mexican Libertad 1 oz Silver Coins bears the image of the Mexican coat of arms. Inspired by ancient seals used in Mexico, this modern depiction includes the Mexican golden eagle battling a serpent on a cactus branch. The term Estados Unidos Mexicanos is inscribed above with a wreath below to frame the seal. Around the outer edge of the design field are 10 historic versions of the same seal.
History
Proof Mexican Libertad 1 oz Silver coins debuted first in this series with a 1983 release. The 1 oz coin was then reintroduced in 1986 and struck in every year since that time. The other weights in the proof series debuted in 1992 with four fractional-ounce coins and 1996 with a 2 oz and 5 oz option.
