The 2015 Proof New Mexico Navajo Cougar 1 oz Silver Coin pays tribute to the Navajo tribe. Each of the coins in this collection, released by the Native American Mint, honors the tribal nations recognized in North America. Each of the designs features a tribal nation and an animal that is native to the area the tribe was known to live in. This coin pays homage to the cougar, a North American wild cat known for being sleek and stealthy. Each of the coins contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver and is considered to be highly collectible amongst both the investor and the collector of Native American artwork.

Highlights:

  • Delivered secured in a protective plastic capsule!
  • 2nd release in series!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • Face value of 1 Dollar, backed by the Native American Mint. Not legal US tender.
  • Obverse features image representing the Navajo Nation.
  • Reverse features image of the sleek cougar.

There are over 300,000 registered members of the Navajo Nation, which makes it the second largest of all federally recognized tribes across the United States. The Navajo Nation is actually an independent government that is tasked with the management of the Navajo reservation that is found at Four Corners, which is where New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada intersect.

While this coin pays tribute to the New Mexico Navajo people, the state is actually home to only the second largest population of Navajo tribe members. Arizona has more than 20,000 members over the population of New Mexico.

Obverse

The obverse design of the 2015 Proof New Mexico Navajo Cougar 1 oz Silver Coin features the image of a member of the Navajo tribe. The lone Navajo tribal member is depicted wearing a traditional headdress and also a cloth wrap across his face to keep the dusty winds at bay. Also featured on the obverse side of the coin is the name of the Navajo tribe, the metal content, year of release, face value and weight of the coin.

Reverse

The reverse design of the 2015 Proof New Mexico Navajo Cougar 1 oz Silver Coin features the image of the North American cougar settled on a rock. This large wild cat is also often referred to as a mountain lion and can live as long as 13 years in the wild. While cougars are efficient and deadly hunters, fatal attacks are exceptionally rare as the cougar tends to be a shy and solitary creature. Also featured on the reverse side of the coin are New Mexico Cougar and America. Jamul Sovereign Nation is also engraved on the reverse of the coin.

Your 2015 Proof New Mexico Navajo Cougar 1 oz Silver Coin will have a beautiful satin finish. The glossy mirror-like finish adds to the beauty of this well-designed coin.

The coin has an assigned face value but it is not considered to be legal tender in the United States. This is because only the United States Mint is permitted to produce legal tender.
