History
Proof American Eagle Gold Coins made their debut in 1986 with a 1 oz coin, followed by a 1/2 oz coin in the subsequent year, and 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins in 1988. Except for 2009, when they were not issued due to economic uncertainty, proof strikes have been issued annually ever since.
