The United States Mint issued its first-ever 24-karat gold coin in 2006 with the debut of the American Buffalo 1 oz Gold Coin. In 2009, the US Mint struck Augustus Saint-Gaudens historic Lady Liberty image for the first time in ultra-high-relief as Saint-Gaudens originally intended in 1907. In 2015, with the release of these American Liberty 1 oz Gold Coins, the United States Mint issued its first-ever $100 (USD) face value gold coin.

Obverse

Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse side of the 2015-W American Liberty 1 oz Gold Coin. This modern depiction of Liberty showcases her figure in front-facing relief holding a torch in her right hand at her side and clutching flag pole in her left hand that boasts a gently waving American flag. Inscriptions on this side read Liberty, 2015, In God We Trust, and the JK initials of the designer.

Reverse

An American bald eagle is featured on the reverse of the 2015-W American Liberty 1 oz Gold Coin. The bald eagle appears powerful in flight as it flexes its large wings and carries an olive branch in its talons beneath its body. Inscriptions here include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, 1 oz .9999 Fine Gold, and One Hundred Dollars. There is also a W mint mark from the West Point Mint on this side.

History

The total mintage of these 2015 American Liberty Gold Coin was just 49,325 coins. This means that certified perfect coins such as these represent just a small fraction of that overall mintage.

Ordering

These 2015-W American Liberty 1 oz Gold Coins are available in perfect condition. A Mint State 70 certification indicates a coin that has full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind.
