The Perth Mint 1 Kilo Year of the Monkey Silver Coin is the 9th design in the Lunar Series II, which celebrates the Chinese Zodiac. Each kilo Silver Coin consists of 32.15 troy ounces of, and is manufactured at Australia’s Perth Mint. Because the 2016 1 kilo Silver Year of the Monkey Coin is Silver Bullion minted and backed by a Sovereign government, each coin qualifies to be included in a Precious Metals IRA.
The obverse of the Perth Mint 1 Kilo Year of the Monkey Silver Coin features an adult monkey perched on a limb in a peach tree, looking at a juvenile monkey as it holds out a peach in its right hand. In Chinese culture, peaches are a symbol of a health and long life. The Chinese character for “monkey” is stamped at the top of the coin, while “Year of the Monkey” is inscribed below.
The Year of the Monkey will begin on Feb. 8, 2016. According to the Chinese zodiac, individuals born during the year of the monkey are optimistic, intelligent, witty, and adventurous. Their lucky numbers are four and nine, and lucky colors are white, gold, and blue.
Queen Elizabeth II, as portrayed by Ian Rank-Broadley, is featured on the obverse. Inscriptions of “ELIZABETH II,” “AUSTRALIA” and “2016” are engraved along with the coin’s weight, metal purity, and legal tender value. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is now the longest reigning British Monarch. She passed her great-great grandmother as longest reigning monarch on Sept. 9, 2015.
