Designed in July 2015 by Jody Clark, this image is the fifth-generation effigy of the Queen on British currency and the 2016 date mark represents the first time the new effigy was available on bullion coins. Here, the Queen is shown in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head.

Reverse

On the reverse face of 2016 British Britannia Lunar Monkey Edge Privy 1 oz Gold Coins is the powerful design of Britannia. The female personification of Britain, the design was created in 1987 by Philip Nathan for the Royal Mint to use in the launch of the new Britannia bullion series. It shows Britannia standing at the coastline of Britain with a shield in one hand to defend the isles and a trident in the other to showcase her control of the seas.

History

The Royal Mint of England released its first edge privy marks in 2013 on the Britannia Silver coins. One year later, the Royal Mint would introduce its own full-fledged lunar collection, a series of silver and gold coins known as the Shengxiao Collection.
