Obverse
Augustus Saint-Gaudens famous depiction of Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse design of the 2016-W Burnished American Eagle Gold Coin. This portrayal of Liberty shows her holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, walking towards the viewer with rays of sunshine in the background, the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet, and a ring of stars surrounding the field. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, 2016, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 2016-W Burnished Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins showcases Miley Busieks captivating representation of a family of bald eagles. The male eagle soars above the nest with a large branch in its talons as the female eagle guards her hatchlings in the nest. The inscriptions on this field read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1 OZ FINE GOLD, and 50 DOLLARS.
History
The 2016 release of Burnished American Eagle Gold Coin had a mintage in-line with the post-suspension era. Since 2011, mintage has generally fallen between 5,800 coins and 8,700 coins.
