The Call of the Wild Series coins all have a few similarities. One is that every coin has wavy lines in the design field meant to mimic the soundwaves each animal produces when it unleashes its call. All reverse designs are created by Pierre LeDuc, who was also responsible for the reverse designs in the Canadian Wildlife Coin Series that ran from 2011 to 2013. You can see his initials in the waves on the coins.

Obverse

The obverse design on these coins features the right-profile image of Queen Elizabeth II. As the fourth-generation effigy of Her Majesty, it has been featured on Canadian coinage since 2003. It is just the second effigy designed for Canadian coinage that was created by a Canadian artist. This artist is Susanna Blunt.

Reverse

A growling cougar can be found on the reverse face of these coins. You will see only the upper torso and head of the cougar, but its open mouth serves as a warning sign to predators and prey it may come across. The cougars sharp teeth are very visible in this image.

History

The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 to create coinage for Canada. The RCM is the official sovereign mint of Canada.
