In 2016, the Chinese Mint made a major change to its coveted Chinese Panda bullion coins by shifting away from Troy ounces as the unit of note for the weight and to the Gram instead. This meant minor changes in the physical appearance of the coins and, in many cases, the actual weight. For example, the previously issued Chinese Panda 1 oz Gold coin had a weight of 31.103 Grams, a diameter of 32.05 MM, and a thickness of 2.70 MM. The new Chinese Panda 30 Gram Gold Coin had a flat 30-Gram weight, a diameter of exactly 32 MM, and retained its 2.70 MM thickness.

Obverse

On the obverse face of the 2016 Chinese Panda 30 Gram Gold Coin is a depiction of the building known as the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This structure is located within the Temple of Heaven Complex that was built in south-central Beijing between 1406 and 1420.

Reverse

The reverse of Chinese Panda Gold coins famously changes each year and the 2016 Chinese Panda 30 Gram Gold coin is no exception. This years design includes the image of a Giant Panda as it cautiously crawls out onto a low branch or trunk of a fallen tree.

History

The biggest previous change in the history of the Chinese Panda Gold Coins was the increase of the face value for each weight in 2001. Previously, the 30 Gram gold coin had a face value of 100 Yuan from 1982 to 2000. Starting in 2001, and continuing beyond 2016, the coin boasts a value of 500 Yuan.

Ordering

These 2016 Chinese Panda 30 Gram Gold Coins earned Mint State 69 certifications. Known as near-perfect coins, each one has full, original mint luster and no more than two minor detracting flaws. Those flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be located outside the primary focal points of the coin.
