The Royal Mint of England, like many other sovereign mints, does not add colorization directly to its major bullion coin collections. Created in 1987 by Philip Nathan for the debut of the British Britannia Gold Coin, it shows Britannia as she stands guard on the southern coast of the British Isles. She clutches a shield in her left hand with a trident in her right hand. These coins have been colorized to bring Britannias image to life.

The entire background field has a sea-blue colorization with green beneath her feet. The trident is a powerful black with auburn hair on Britannia and a flash of red atop her Corinthian helmet. The shield is emblazoned with the red, white, and blue of the Union Jack flag. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include Britannia, 2016, and 1 oz 999 Fine Silver.

History

The British Britannia Silver Coin debuted in 1997. Originally offered with sterling silver content, or .925 silver, it features .999 pure silver content as of 2013.
