Africa is home to a number of different animal-themed coin series. One of the least known is the Congo African Lion Series. This series is a continuation of the Burundi African Lion design that was released in 2015. In 2016, however, the coin has a new design and a new nation of issue. Each of the coins in this listing has received a near-perfect MS69 grade from the NGC. Coins with this grade will exhibit their full mint luster. Only two minor detracting flaws are allowed on a coin with this grade. These flaws cant be in the primary focal areas of the coin. Only 50,000 coins were struck in 2016.

Obverse

On the obverse of the coin, you will see the image of a large male lion. Presumably the leader of the pack, this large lion walks next to a lioness. The two seem to be stalking prey. Also on this side of the coin, you will see the engraving African Lion.

Reverse

The reverse side of the coin showcases the coat of arms for the Republic of Congo. Engravings on this side of the coin include Republique du Congo, as well as the year of issue, face value, weight, purity, and metal content.

History

The Sunshine Mint is a private minting facility founded in Idaho. Headquartered in Couer dAlene, the company also has manufacturing facilities in Nevada and Shanghai, China.
