The design of the 2016 Congo African Lion 1 oz Silver Coin features a lion and a lioness, strolling across the savannah, determination on their faces as they appear to be stalking towards the onlooker. This coin, government-backed legal tender in the Republic of Congo, is made of .999 pure silver.

The silver African Lion Series of coins are designed to feature a fresh image of the African lion each and every year. The majestic lion, although often called the King of the Jungle, is actually not found in jungle settings. Lions prefer to roam the open savannah and prairies, where their prey can be found in abundance. Once found in plentiful numbers across the African continent, the survival of the species is now threatened due to the continuing encroachment of mankind.

Each of these 2016 Congo African Lion 1 oz Silver Coins, minted by Sunshine Minting, have earned the perfect certification from the NGC. The coins are free from any detracting flaws and have a perfect mint luster. The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation has issued a grade of Mint State (MS) 70 for the coins.

Obverse Design

The obverse design of the 2016 Congo African Lion 1 oz Silver Coin features the striking images of a male and female lion, seeming to stalk towards the viewer. The African lion family dynamic is interesting in that it is typically the lioness that does the majority of the hunting to feed the pride. This silver coin also features the words African Lion engraved above the male.

Reverse Design

The reverse design of the 2016 Congo African Lion 1 oz Silver Coin features the Congo coat of arms. The coat of arms is made up of a shield with a torch-wielding rampant red lion against a gold background, a green waved horizontal stripe is featured in the middle of the background. A golden crown is set above the shield. Two African elephants bookend the shield, paying homage to the majestic animals that roam the African continents. The words Unite Travail Progress are featured on a banner that is draped from a bar that is offering support to the elephants. Also engraved on the reverse of the coin are Republique du Congo along with the weight, purity, metal content, face value and year of issue of the coin.

The coins are delivered protected in plastic slabs, to ensure the continued perfect condition as certified by the NGC.
