Obverse

The obverse face of all of the coins in this series shows a colorized image of the globe. Also on this side of the coin, you will see the image of Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief.

Reverse

Each of these coins has a different reverse design. One coin shows a fully colorized image of the African Mandrill, which is considered the worlds largest monkey species. These animals have brilliantly colored faces and fur.

The African Lion coin showcases the image of a male lion and a young cub. Both animals are pictured in great detail, and you can even see individual furs coming off of the adult lions large, fluffy mane.

History

The New Zealand Mint is producing these coins in conjunction with the Discovery Channel. The series is planned to contain seven releases, representing each of the continents of the world. In each set, there will be two different coins, each representing a different endangered species. The series will feature a total of 14 coins.
