The large and lumbering grizzly bear is one of the most iconic natural predators in North America and Canada. This apex predator is only threatened by the dangers than humans and the ever-encroaching civilization pose. Grizzly bears do not seek out humans to harm them, but have been known to maim and even kill those that they have encountered in the wild.

The Wild Canada Series of Canadian Silver Maple Leaf series of coins, released by the Royal Canadian Mint, commemorates the original designs from the first Canadian Wildlife Series.

Obverse

The obverse design of the 2016 Reverse Proof Grizzly Bear Privy Canadian 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf coin features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed in 2003 by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt.

Reverse

The reverse design of the 2016 Reverse Proof Grizzly Bear Privy Canadian 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf features the sugar maple leaf design. The lower left of the coin features the grizzly bear privy mark.

The coins in this series were struck as reverse proof specimens. They have deeply-mirrored finishes on the designs, with frosted backgrounds. They make great additions to any collection of wildlife coins. Other designs in the series include a wolf, cougar, moose, antelope, and bison. These iconic animals are a part of the wild Canadian landscape. These coins earned a PF70 certification indicating each one has full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws. Early Release labels mean the coins were received for grading within the original 30 days following release by the Royal Canadian Mint.
