This classic design by Adolph A. Weinman features Lady Liberty with an American flag draped around her shoulders. She carries branches of laurel and oak in one arm, while the other arm reaches toward a sunrise. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2016.”
The reverse focuses on an American Bald Eagle perched atop a rock, with outstretched wings as it prepares to soar into the sky. You’ll find the purity, weight, and denomination on this side, along with inscriptions of “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
The 2016-W oz Gold Walking Liberty Half Dollar was issued by the US Mint to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Weinman’s treasured design, which first appeared on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The original coin was produced during the “Renaissance of American Coinage,” which produced many coins that remain popular today. The “W” in the coin’s title refers to it being struck at the West Point branch of the US Mint.
Each of these gold coins comes in a protective plastic capsule inside of a custom-designed black display box. A certificate of authenticity is also included.
