Above her, “LIBERTY” is inscribed, and below, “2016.” This depiction of a bright tomorrow for the American people has been used on the American Silver Eagle since 1986.
Equally stunning is the reverse, featuring John Mercanti’s eagle and shield design. A bald eagle, with outstretched wings, holds a banner in its beak, reading “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” Across his chest is a shield and above him are the 13 stars, representing the 13 original colonies. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” is displayed above the eagle, while “1 OZ FINE SILVER ~ ONE DOLLAR” is inscribed below.
