This sovereign coin is composed of 1 oz, .999 fine silver and has the unique characteristic as being a first strike coin with a PCGS grade of PR69- nearly perfect. The proof finish gives this coin a brilliant shine and beautiful appearance.
The patriotic Lady Liberty graces the obverse, cloaked in the American flag, walking towards a rising sun. In her arm, she clutches a bunch of laurel branches- a symbol of peace and promise for a bright future. This striking Adolph Weinman design has been featured on the American Silver Eagle for over 30 years.
On the reverse, John Mercanti has depicted a majestic bald eagle bearing a shield across his chest. In its beak, a banner reads “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” 13 stars are engraved above the national bird, as well as the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” Below, the coin’s attributes are inscribed, “1 OZ FINE SILVER ~ ONE DOLLAR.”
The US Mint has been operating since the Coin Act of 1792. Four facilities across the US create striking bullion for American circulation and collectors. Most American Silver Eagles are minted at the West Point facility; this coin was among the first coins struck for the year 2016 and has received a nearly perfect grade from the PCGS.
