The Weather Phenomenon Series from the Royal Canadian Mint is back in 2016 with the Radiant Rainbow Coin. This coin features a bright rainbow in full color on the reverse side of the coin. Today, you can purchase this colorful coin in all its glory at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The coins in this listing have a brilliant proof finish. The proof finish means that the background of the coin is frosted, but the design elements are mirrored and shiny. These coins ship from our warehouse in special packaging from the Royal Canadian Mint for both protection and displaying once you have the coin in your possession.
Obverse
The obverse side of the coin shows off the 2003 depiction of Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief. This image has been on the obverse of Canadian coinage since 2004, and it was created by Susanna Blunt to act as the fourth-generation image of the Queen for Canadian coinage.
Reverse
The reverse face of each coin showcases a brilliantly colored rainbow designed by Tony Bianco. In the design, you can see a storm rolling over the Canadian plains. You will also notice a farmhouse with a barn in the middle ground of the coin. The sun starts to peek through the clouds to create the beautiful rainbow that is the focal point of the coin.
History
Founded in 1908, the Royal Canadian Mint was originally intended to refine gold from the Yukon Territories after gold was found in the area in the late 19th century. Now, there are two separate facilities creating coinage for the country. One is in Winnipeg and the other Ottawa.
