Ancient mythologies are incredibly interesting to people today. While schools often teach a lot about Roman and Greek mythologies, you might not know nearly as much about Norse mythology. The BH Mayer Mint in Germany has created a nine-coin series that showcases gods and goddesses from this unique mythology. Right now, you can purchase the 2016 Proof Cook Islands Norse God Frigg 2 oz Silver Coin in Ultra High Relief from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Frigg is known as the patroness of motherhood, marriage, maternity, and fertility in Norse mythology. She is the creator of destiny, and she even has the ability to see into the future.
Obverse
The obverse face of each of these coins showcases the image of Queen Elizabeth II. This image was created by Sir Ian Rank-Broadley, an artist and sculptor, in 1998. It is the fourth version of Queen Elizabeth IIs effigy to be used on commonwealth coinage since 1952.
Reverse
On the reverse face of each coin, you will see the image of the Norse God Frigg. In this image, you will see Frigg sitting on the throne of Hlisdkialf. As the wife of Odin, father of the gods, it is important to note that she is not the mother of Odins famous son, Thor. Other than Odin, she is the only other Norse God that is allowed to sit on the throne of Hlisdkialf. In this image, you can see Frigg with a spindle, which allows her to spin the threads of fate.
