The Seminole people were thought to have resided across much of what we know as the state of Florida today. Today, the majority of the Seminole nation people are found to reside in Oklahoma, as a result of being forcibly relocated during what is now knows as the Trail of Tears. Other tribes that were forced out of their ancestral homes include the Cherokee and Creeks of Georgia, Mississippi, and from other regions in the United States.

Obverse

The obverse design of the 2016 Proof Florida Seminole Alligator 1 oz Silver Coin features a beautifully drawn image of a Seminole tribal member. A traditional headdress is shown upon his head. The words Seminole are engraved above his image. Also engraved on the obverse side of the coin are the mint date, purity, face value and weight of the coin.

Reverse

The reverse design of the 2016 Proof Florida Seminole Alligator 1 oz Silver Coin depicts an alligator, which is one of the animals Florida is most often synonymous with. Alligators are found most often in the marshlands that Florida has in abundance. Engravings on the reverse side of the coin include the name of the animal, the state, and the word America.

The 2016 Proof Florida Seminole Alligator 1 oz Silver Coin, and each of the coins in the collection, are produced by the Native American Mint, which is found in Torrance, California. The Jamul Sovereign Nation operates the mint, independent of any federal mint.
