Plane Crazy was tested in a small screening in May 1928 as a silent film that represented the first appearance of Mickey Mouse. Mickey first appeared in an animated short with synchronized sound later in 1928 in Steamboat Willie, but the initial test screening of Plane Crazy was actually his first appearance. However, Plane Crazy was not initially picked up by distributors following that test screening.
