The Wild Canada Series of coins from the Royal Canadian Mint is extremely popular. These coins look much like the beloved Maple Leaf Silver Coins, but they come in a reverse proof finish and contain small privy marks of popular Canadian animals. Today, the 2016 Reverse Proof Canadian Maple Leaf Grizzly Bear Privy 1 oz Silver Coin is available for purchase at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Individual coins ship in plastic flips, while multiples between 10 and 25 ship in tubes; multiples of 500 ship in monster boxes.
  • Mintage limited to only 50,000 coins!
  • 2nd release in the popular Wild Canada Series, which commemorates the Wildlife Series.
  • Two coins will be released in each 2016, 2017, and 2018.
  • Each coin contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver.
  • Reverse features the grizzly bear privy mark to commemorate the original 2011 Grizzly Bear coin.
  • Obverse bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • Features the reverse proof finish.
  • Given a face value of $5 (CAD) backed by the Canadian government.

All of the coins in this listing were struck in reverse proof relief. This means that the design fields are a glossy, mirrored silver finish, while the background is a frosty matte finish.

Obverse

The obverse face of each coin showcases Susanna Blunts image of Queen Elizabeth II. Blunt created this image in 2003, and it is accompanied by the name of the Queen, the face value of the coin, and the year of issue.

Reverse

The reverse side of the coin showcases the maple leaf design and the radial lines that are a fairly new security feature from the Royal Canadian Mint. These security lines were added to the coins in 2015. To the bottom-left of the maple leaf, you will notice a small grizzly bear privy mark.

History

The Royal Canadian Mint has produced Maple Leaf coins since 1988. Privy marks are one of the very few deviations in design that these coins have seen in their history.
