Obverse

The obverse of each coin shows Weinmans left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a winged cap. On this side of the coin, the word LIBERTY is engraved around Lady Libertys head. You will also see IN GOD WE TRUST, the W mint mark, and the release year.

Reverse

On the reverse, you can see the image of the Roman fasces, which are known to represent strength and unity, wrapped in an olive branch to represent peace.

History

In the early 20^th century, Adolph A. Weinman played a large role in the revitalization of American coinage. This Winged Liberty design replaces Charles E. Barbers 1892 design and became known as the Mercury Dime due to the similarities in appearance to the Roman God Mercury, the messenger of the Gods.
