The design element includes inscriptions of LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, 2016, and Weinmans AW signature mark.
Reverse
The reverse side of 2016-W American Mercury Dime 1/10 oz Gold Coins comes with a depiction of a Roman fasces. This symbol of imperial power is wrapped by an olive branch. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME, E PLURIBUS UNUM, AU 24 K 1/10 OZ., and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.
History
The 2016 American Centennial Gold Series featured the Mercury Dime, Standing Liberty Quarter, and Walking Liberty Half Dollar designs on 24-karat gold coins. In honor of the original denominations, the Mercury Dime was struck on a 1/10 oz gold coin, the Standing Liberty Quarter on a 1/4 oz gold coin, and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar on a 1/2 oz gold coin.
