History

The U.S. Mint began striking an annual series of Presidential coins in 2007 in a program authorized by the Presidential One Dollar Coin Act. That same Act provided for the creation of a parallel First Spouse Gold Coin program, which celebrated these influential figures in the chronological order in which they served the nation. The fortieth release was devoted to one of the most notably cause-driven and energetic First Ladies, Nancy Reagan, who took up the cause of battling drug and alcohol addiction in America’s youth with the “JUST SAY NO” campaign that would prove the most famous part of her legacy.
