History
Hermon Atkins MacNeils Standing Liberty design was not instantly popular with Americans. His initial design featured a bare-chested Liberty that was not considered appropriate by many. The design was used on the quarter from 1916 to 1930 when it was suspended. New quarters were struck starting in 1932 with the bust of President George Washington on the obverse.
