The 2017 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle is the latest in this series that is treasured by investors and collectors alike. This gold bullion coin contains 1/4 troy ounce of .9167 fine gold. Like other sovereign minted coins, Gold Eagles are eligible for a Precious Metals IRA. All gold used to make these rounds is sourced from the US and alloyed with stronger metals for durability.
The obverse of the Gold Eagle depicts Augustus Sant-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty standing in front of a rising sun. She carries a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. This side is circled by a ring of five-pointed stars with inscriptions that read “LIBERTY” and “2017.”
The Gold Eagle’s reverse features a design by Miley Busiek of a male Bald Eagle carrying an olive branch back to the nest, where his mate and chick sit. Inscriptions on this side read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” along with the coin’s weight and monetary value.
Created by the Coinage Act of 1792, the US Mint produces all American legal tender bullion. American Gold Eagles began production in 1986, as authorized by The Gold Bullion Act of 1985.

My first Gold coin. Very very nice coin! Its a bit smaller than I expected. I expected it to be about the size of a quarter but its a bit smaller. Its actually almost precisely the size of a Buffalo Nickel. The color is not a shiny bright yellow like one expects from Gold, It has sort of a dark brass color. This is a result of being 22k Gold and not 24K pure gold. These coins actually have some copper mixed in to harden the metal and its the copper that darkens the color. ( applies to all eagles)
