Canada is known for releasing very unique coins into the precious metals market. One of their most unusual series is the Sculpture of Majestic Canadian Animals series, which showcases native creatures atop a silver coin as small gold sculptures. This series will feature five special designs with $100 (CAD) face values. Get your 2017 Proof Canadian $100 Sculpture of Majestic Canadian Animals: Cougar Silver Coin from Provident Metals today.

Highlights:

  • Ships in a circular wood base with a black case.
  • Mintage limited to just 1,200 coins!
  • 2nd release in the Majestic Canadian Animals Series!
  • Each coin contains 315.71 Grams (10.1503 Troy oz) of .999pure silver.
  • Given a face value of $100 (CAD) backed by the Canadian government.
  • Obverse bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II
  • Reverse features the gold statue of a cougar.
  • Designed by Karl Lansing.

Cougars are known by many names throughout the Americas, including mountain lion, puma, panther, or catamount. These wild cats have a large habitat range, which spans from the Canadian Yukon to the southern Andes of South America.

Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is featured in right-profile relief on the obverse face of each coin. This image created by Susanna Blunt in 2003 has been featured on Canadian coinage since 2004.

Reverse

On the reverse side of each coin is the image of a cougar in 3D relief. The cougar looks as if it is leaping off the surface of the coin, and it is covered in gold. Cougars are naturally nocturnal creatures, and they are more closely related to the domestic cat than other predatory feline species like the jaguar.

History

The Royal Canadian Mint has a history of creating beautiful coins for the nation of Canada at its locations in both Ottawa and Winnipeg. The mint was originally founded in 1908 in the capital city of Ottawa, but a second location was opened in Winnipeg in the 1980s to allow for higher production volume.
