The obverse features the Temple of Heaven, which is an actual building located in Beijing. The temple sits atop a shining field. The top inscription translates to “PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA” and the year of issue is inscribed below.
The Panda coins get a new reverse design each year. The 2017 reverse features a panda with a bamboo shoot in its paws sitting in front of a bamboo forest. The bear’s eyes, ears, and legs have a proof-like finish to represent the famous bi-colored fur pattern of a panda. The coin’s weight, purity, and denomination are inscribed.
The Chinese Mint has been manufacturing Gold Pandas since 1983. All coins’ weight and purity is guaranteed through the People’s Bank of China. Beginning in 2016, the mint abandoned the troy ounce standard and adopted a metric weight system in the making of Panda coins.
All Gold Pandas ship in brilliant uncirculated condition in original mint packaging.

"
Although the AE is 22 karat gold, it still contains 1 troy oz of pure gold content. This is due to the fact that the coin itself weighs 1.0909 troy ounces total, resulting in 1 troy ounce of pure gold. On a single coin purchase the Panda is $89.00 over spot which is almost twice the premium of a AE. That said this is a beautiful coin and I'll be buying the 2017 to add to my collection."

"
As most gold bugs may know, the 2016 Chinese Gold Panda weights "only" 30 g and the 2016 American Eagle has 31.1 g (1 troy ounce). I compared the gold contents (Panda = 0,999 or 24K and AE = 0.9167 or 22K) and surprised myself that the AE actually contains less gold than Panda. The 31.1 g of 22K in AE come out to be 28.5 g of 24 K. The Panda has 1.5 g MORE 24K gold and costs LESS than the AE."
