The kookaburra belongs to the kingfisher family of birds. There are, however, four distinct subspecies of the kookaburra in Australia, New Guinea, and the Aru Islands. The laughing kookaburra is featured on the 2017 Australian Kookaburra 1 oz Silver Coin. This bird is known for having an interesting cry that sounds very much like the laughter of a human.
