Canadian Maple Leaf coins are some of the most beautiful bullion specimens available among precious metals. Although the gold, silver, platinum, and palladium coins all share the same sugar maple leaf design, the Royal Canadian Mint does use special maple leaf designs from time to time. The Canadian Megaleaf is the perfect example of that occasional change. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase 2017 Canadian Megaleaf 1.5 oz Gold Coins from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a protective plastic flip or tube of 15!
  • 1st issue of a 1.5 oz Gold Maple Leaf coin!
  • Contains 1.5 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition.
  • The face value of $150 (CAD) is backed by Canada.
  • Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse.
  • Various maple leaves from the silver maple species are intertwined on the reverse.
  • Artwork by Stan Witten.

2017 Canadian Megaleaf 1.5 oz Gold Coins are available to you with individual protective plastic flips or tubes of 15 coins. Each of the individual coins in this listing is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The Megaleaf departs from the use of the singular sugar maple leaf to feature a fresh design from Stan Witten.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2017 Canadian Megaleaf 1.5 oz Gold Coin features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Designed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, this is just the second portrait of a monarch by a Canadian artist. It has featured on Canadian bullion and circulation coins since that time and is the first since the reign of King George VI to depict the monarch without a crown.

Reverse

For the reverse field, 2017 Canadian Megaleaf 1.5 oz Gold Coins feature three intertwined leaves from a maple species. While the standard Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin uses the image of a sugar maple, common to Canada, this design features leaves from the silver maple. This is another major species of maple tree in North America.

History

There are roughly 128 species of maple in the world, with most species native to Asia. A number of maple species can be found in Europe, northern Africa, and North America. There is just one maple species that is found in the Southern Hemisphere. The silver maple, as featured in the leaves in this design, is the most common maple species in the United States and spans large swaths of Canada as well.
