The National Mint of Mexico (or Casa de Moneda de Mexico) was established in 1535 and remains the oldest Mint in North and South America. The original Silver Libertad, first produced in 1982, was based on the Centenario gold coin that was produced between 1921 and 1947. It’s design incorporated Winged Victoria (or Victory), the Mexican angel of independence, holding a laurel wreath and a broken chain to celebrate Mexico’s independence from Spain.
Today’s Libertad features an obverse with multiple seals. The Mexican national seal is centered, which pictures an eagle perched on a cactus carrying a snake in its beak. The inscription above the seal reads “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.” Ten additional seals are positioned around the focal point, representing the Mexican provinces.
The Victory Angel stands on the coin’s reverse, positioned between two volcanoes called Popocatepeti and Iztaccuhuati after a pair of lovers from pre-Columbian lore. The inscriptions include “1/2 ONZA,” “PLATA PURA,” “2017,” and “LEY .999.”

For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
