Obverse
The obverse design of the 2017 Australian Lunar Rooster 1 oz Silver Coin features the right-profile portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait of the Queen was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. It is the fourth-generation image of Her Majesty to appear on coinage since she took the throne.

The reverse design of the 2017 Australian Lunar Rooster 1 oz Silver Coin features the Year of the Rooster design. This silver-exclusive design features the image of a rooster, depicted standing on one leg. There is also a hen and a group of three chicks scratching on the ground in search of food.
