The case has three velvet-lined slots for each coin to rest in and comes with a wooden lid to enclose the coins. Each coin in this set is a proof specimen from the Perth Mint with frosted visuals and mirrored fields.
Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of all coins in the 2017 Proof Australian Lunar Rooster 3-Coin Set. These gold coins have the right-profile portrait of the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. This effigy was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley and debuted on Australian coins starting in 1999.
Reverse
The Year of the Rooster design from Ing Ing Jong is found on the reverse of 2017 Proof Australian Lunar Rooster 3-Coin Gold Sets. The rooster stands on one leg in left-profile relief amidst bamboo shoots and leaves with an inscription of the Mandarin Chinese symbol for the rooster. Additional inscriptions include Year of the Rooster and the P mintmark of the Perth Mint.
History
The Lunar Series II collection launched in 2008 and concluded in 2019 with the Year of the Pig. The coins are available in silver and gold with separate designs for each silver and gold release. Ing Ing Jong was the designer of note in the series from 2013 to the conclusion of the Lunar Series II collection in 2019.

All 2017 Proof Australian Lunar Rooster 3-Coin Gold Sets come with limited mintage figures from the Perth Mint. The oldest operating mint in Australia, the Perth Mint was founded in 1899 as part of the Royal Mint of England system. Since 1965, it has been a state-owned entity of Western Australia.
