Obverse
The obverse of each coin in the Niue Mickey Mouse Fantasia Gold Coin series bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II in a right-profile view. Her Majesty is on the obverse of all commonwealth coinage. This particular design was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. It is the fourth-generation design of Queen Elizabeth II.
Reverse
The reverse side of each of these coins shows Mickey Mouse as the Sorcerers Apprentice from FANTASIA. On the coin, he is giving orders to a mop that is carrying two pails of water. You can see Mickey in this role in the 1940s film.
History
These coins are minted at the New Zealand Mint, a private minting facility located in Auckland. This private company is responsible for the production of bullion coinage for a number of South Pacific nations. However, the mint does not work with the government of New Zealand on any official currency of bullion for the country.
