The Birds of Prey Series from the Royal Canadian Mint was so popular in its short run that the mint brought the designs back for a repeat series with reverse proof visuals and lower mintage figures. Starting in 2016, all four designs from the Birds of Prey Series were made available in the Reverse Proof Birds of Prey collection. Right now, you can get the 2017 Reverse Proof Canadian Bald Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin in perfect condition online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Your 2017 Reverse Proof Canadian Bald Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin ships today sealed inside of a protective plastic slab from the NGC. These coins have PF70 grades. This means the coins exhibit full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws of any kind on the designs or surface areas. The included ER label stands for Early Release and refers to the arrival of the coin for grading. To earn the ER label, coins must arrive at the NGC or an approved third-party depository within the first 30 days of initial release from the Royal Canadian Mint.
Obverse
On the obverse side of the 2017 Reverse Proof Canadian Bald Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin, you will find the image of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fourth-generation effigy of Her Majesty to feature on Canadian coins. It was designed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt and depicts the Queen in right-profile relief. Not only is the design just the second monarch portrait created by a Canadian artist for national currency, but it is also the first since the reign of King George VI to depict the monarch without a crown.
Reverse
The reverse face of 2017 Reverse Proof Canadian Bald Eagle Silver Coins bears a design of the bald eagle soaring in flight after just swooping down to capture its latest meal. In the eagles talons, you will see a fish it has caught.
History
The original Birds of Prey Series from the mint was a four-coin release with two designs each in 2014 and 2015. The images of those aerial predators were created by Emily Damstra, one of Canadas famed wildlife artists who had previously worked on the final two issues in the Canadian Wildlife Series. The Reverse Proof Birds of Prey Series started immediately in 2016 with one release per year schedule.
Ordering
These coins are reverse proof specimens that have frosted background fields and mirrored design elements. The contrasting elements help the design stand out beautifully from the surface of the coin.
