The 10th issue of the Rwandan Wildlife Collection from the BH Mayer Mint features one of the worlds largest living land mammals. The hippopotamus might look like a gentle giant, but hundreds of people are actually killed by these territorial, protective beasts on African waterways each year. Provident Metals now offers the 2017 Rwandan Hippo 1 oz Silver Coin from this series for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase 2017 Rwandan Hippo 1 oz Silver Coins, you will receive your coins individually packaged or packaged together in multiples of 10 coins. All individual coins come with a protective plastic flip, while multiples of 10 are housed inside of sealed plastic sheets from BH Mayer Mint. Each individual coin available here is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
Obverse
On the obverse face of 2017 Rwandan Hippo 1 oz Silver Coins is a depiction of an adult hippopotamus with its young calf nearby. The common design element of this series, the African continent outline, is also featured on this side of the coin. The hippo is extremely protective of its territory, and even more so its young calves. Hundreds of people are injured or killed each year in Africa because they mistakenly wander too close to hippos on waterways throughout Africa. Though docile in appearance, the hippo is capable of killing quickly if it feels threatened.
Reverse
The reverse of 2017 Rwandan Hippo 1 oz Silver Coins comes with the image of the Rwandan Coat of Arms. You will also find the nation of issue, issuing bank, and face value of the coin inscribed on this side in the local tongue, Kinyarwanda.
History
Although the hippo looks like pigs and other ungulates, it is actually most closely related to whales, dolphins, and porpoises. The hippo is a semi-aquatic mammal and ungulate found throughout sub-Saharan Africa. It diverged genetically from whales, dolphins, and porpoises roughly 55 million years ago.
