Each one is a proof specimen with frosted designs and mirrored fields. The box holds all four coins in one set and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity inside.

Obverse

The obverse side of 2017 Proof Somalia Elephant Platinum Coins includes the Somali coat of arms. The national symbol includes a single star on a crowned shield that has a background field of horizontal lines. The inscriptions of Somali Republic, 20 and 16 on either side of the shield, and the face value in Somali Shillings are all marked on this face of the coin.

Reverse

On the reverse side of 2017 Proof Somalia Elephant Platinum Coins in this set is the unique depiction of the African bush elephant. Used only in 2017, the image features a powerful bush elephant in the foreground raising its trunk above its head with its ears out. In the background, a small traditional hut is found beneath a palm tree. The inscriptions read African Wildlife, Elephant, and the coins weight, purity, and metal content.

History

2016 introduced a variety of new options for Somalia Elephant Coins. The series gained 2 oz, 5 oz, and 10 oz silver coins, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz silver coins, a distinctive 1/50 oz gold coin, and the new 1 oz platinum bullion series. The Bavarian State Mint has issued the coins of the Somalia Elephant Series since 2004, and previously issued them from 1999 to 2003 as the Zambia Elephant Series.
