American Buffalo Coins debuted in 2006 as the US Mint celebrated the 20^th anniversary of its American Eagle Series. While the American Buffalo was not the first gold bullion coin issued by the US Mint, it was the first-ever 24-karat gold bullion coin ever produced by the United States Mint.
