The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. Inscriptions include “ELIZABETH II” and “AUSTRALIA,” along with the coin’s denomination.
The Silver Kookaburra’s reverse features new artwork with each annual release. The 2018 release showcases a flying kookaburra with a full moon in the background. The kookaburra has become representative of the Australian outback. Inscriptions include “AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA” and the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark, along with the coin’s weight, purity, and year of issue.
The 2018 1 oz Silver Kookaburra will be produced with a limited mintage of 500,000. This is expected to garner strong collector interest for the coin. The 10 oz and 1 kilo weights will have no mintage limit; production will close at the end of 2018 and the mint will declare each coin’s official mintage.
Each Silver Kookaburra comes in a protective acrylic capsule and ships in new condition as received from the mint.
