The obverse features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. “ELIZABETH II” and “AUSTRALIA” are inscribed around the rim, along with the weight, purity, denomination, and year of issue.
The reverse displays a mother koala atop a tree branch with her baby on her back. At birth, baby koalas measure less than 2 cm. They are blind and deaf, but their strong forelimbs help them climb into their mother’s pouch after birth. The mint’s “P” mintmark is seen on this side, along with radial lines.
Individual 2 oz Mother and Baby Koala coins ship in plastic flips, while quantities of 10 ship in mint-sealed plastic tubes. This is the Perth Mint’s only 2 oz silver coin to come in tubes. Quantities of 100 ship in a mint-sealed monster box.

Looking and holding the real coin is a different story . Great detail and luster like the maple leafs . Even like looking at the Queen now with her Crown . Wanted to buy three more but out of stock . Told them to notify me and bough 17 more the entire stock . This is a Great looking coin !" |

I like buying the off sized coins 1.25, 1.5 and 2 oz coins. These are not one of them. Poor details on koalas. 2 oz coins are unique in that the piece an be enhanced quite nicely by adding depth to the strike in order to show off the depicted. not in this case. lacks any really inspiration.

I wasn’t sure if I’d like these or not until receiving some. Def next generation. Reverse image bears only Perth mintmark and is all about the art. Background radials are subtle and do not impose upon the image as I feared. In fact, the contrasting textures project the mother and baby koala, as well as, the queen’s portrait on the obverse, in an almost 3-D effect despite not being high-relief. Innovative minting by the Perth Mint and as always, great prices and customer service by Provident. Thanks again Provident for another great experience with these unique additions to my silver coin collection!
