Her Majesty is featured in this design with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on her head. The right-profile portrait of Her Majesty was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint of England and featured on Australian coins from 1998 to 2018/2019.

Reverse

The Victorias riflebird is found on the reverse of 2018 Australian Bird of Paradise Gold Coins. Named for the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom when it was discovered by Scotsman John Macgillivray, the bird is native to the rainforests of Queensland state on the Australian continent.

History

Queen Victoria ruled as the monarch of the United Kingdom throughout the vast majority of the 19^th century. Her reign is surpassed in British history by only that of her great-great-granddaughter, the current monarch Queen Elizabeth II. Victorias riflebirds were so-named because of the coloration of the birds plumage compared to that of British Army rifle units.
