The Perth Mints Lunar Series II program is already a standout collection among gold and silver buyers for its use of new designs for each of the 12 animals in the Zodiac. In fact, the Perth Mint even offers separate designs for the silver and gold bullion coins in each release. The Perth Mint will also use the occasional privy mark for special low-mintage options. Right now, you can purchase 2018 Australian Lunar Dog Lion Privy 1 oz Silver Coins online from Provident Metals.

The Perth Mint houses the individual coins inside of protective plastic capsules and offered a limited mintage of just 30,000 for this Lion Privy release. Obverse
The obverse field of the 2018 Australian Lunar Dog 1 oz Silver Coin includes the fifth-generation Australian effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This effigy of Her Majesty was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint of England. It began to appear on Australian and Commonwealth coins in 1999 and remained a staple on Australian coins through the 2018/2019 date mark releases when a new effigy was created. This right-profile portrait shows the Queen wearing her Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.
Reverse
For the reverse side of 2018 Australian Lunar Dog Lion Privy 1 oz Silver Coins, Ing Ing Jong designed the image of two German shepherds. The dogs are in a field and there is an adult with a young juvenile in the foreground. On the right side of the design field is the Lion Privy that makes this coin stand out from the standard Australian Lunar Dog Silver Coins.
History
The Lunar Series II program ran from 2008 to 2019 with these 2018 Australian Lunar Dog Coins representing the 11th of 12 designs issued in that series. The inclusion of the Lion Privy Mark on these coins was a nod to the popularity of the Lunar Series II coins in Germany, one of the hottest markets for Perth Mints prominent series. Lions were important in the heraldry of the Bavarian region of Germany for thousands of years.
