Obverse
The obverse face of the 2018 Australian Rectangular Dragon 1 oz Silver Coin depicts Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief. Her Majesty is shown here in one of the last uses of Ian Rank-Broadleys bust of the monarch on Australian coins. The design depicts only the head of Queen Elizabeth II with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The background field has radiating rays of sunshine that fill the visual field behind the Queen. Inscriptions at the top of the coin include Elizabeth II, Australia, and 1 oz 9999 Ag. Inscriptions at the bottom of the design field read 1 Dollar and 2018.
Reverse
On the reverse field of the 2018 Australian Rectangular Dragon 1 oz Silver Coin, you will find the first of the designs to feature in this series. In this unique release, the dragon is shown with stylized clouds and wind in the background, as well as artistically designed waves at the bottom of the silver coins field. The dragon is shown in pursuit of the flaming pearl which just eludes one of its front paws.
History
The Perth Mint began issuing rectangular silver coins as colorized collectible proofs in its Lunar Series II collection, but the Australian Rectangular Dragon Series, offered in both silver and gold, represented the first bullion version of rectangular coins.
